Interior design course - Beginner 29.04. 2025 - 15.07.2025

Interior Design Course at R312 Architects Studio

Course Start Date:  29.04.2025
Location: R312 Architects Studio
Mentor: Giorgi Zautashvili

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for individuals with no prior experience in interior design as well as beginner designers looking to build a strong foundation. The program provides both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, helping participants develop a deep understanding of the designer's role through real project work.

Who will be your mentor?

I am Giorgi Zautashvili, an architect and interior designer, and I will be your mentor throughout this course.

Education:

  • Tbilisi State Academy of Arts (2002-2004)

  • Berlin University of the Arts (2004-2012)

Professional Experience:
Since 2013, I have been teaching at Ilia State University, where I discovered that education is not just about teaching but also about learning through exchange. This realization led me to establish R312 Platform, an open educational space that fosters discussions on architecture and design.

Through this platform, we organize monthly public lectures featuring Georgian and international architects. This interior design course is also part of the platform, and we plan to expand it further with new events, workshops, and innovative learning formats in the near future.

How is the course structured?

  • An intensive and practice-oriented process that hones both design and client management skills.

  • 24 sessions held on Mondays and Thursdays from 19:30 to 22:00.

  • A combination of theoretical insights and hands-on training, incorporating real architectural case studies and projects from our own studio.

  • The primary goal of the course is for each participant to develop a complete interior design project for their own apartment.

Roles within the course

Each student will take on two roles throughout the course:

  1. Client – Learning how to define project requirements and develop a strong design concept.

  2. Designer – Gaining experience in the full workflow of working with a client, from concept to execution.

Why is this important?
Understanding the client’s perspective is essential because one of the most challenging and dynamic parts of any project is working with the people who will live in the space. Each student will not only design their own project but also take responsibility for a second project in the role of a client.

A detailed course description is available in the attached PDF.
